Eclipse Awards to People

Champion Breeder: Godolphin-breds had over $27 million in progeny earnings and won 24 graded races.
Other finalists: Don Alberto Corporation bred the winners of over 120 races including Journalism, WinStar Farm produced 172 wins with eight graded winners.

Champion Owner: Godolphin. Its eighth Eclipse as top owner and its sixth straight. Need we say more? Owner, breeder of Sovereignty. Ranked first by earnings and fourth by wins.
Other finalists: Klaravich Stables, ranked 10th by wins and second by earnings; Spendthrift Farm, which had a remarkable run in latter 2025.

Champion Trainer: Bill Mott, trainer of Sovereignty, with 102 wins and over $16 million in earnings. His fifth Eclipse. He said, "It's good to be back up here."
Other finalists: Chad Brown won 197 races and over $24 million in earnings; Brad Cox with over $30 million in purses and 26 graded wins.
Before tonight these three trainers already had 11 Eclipse Awards.

Champion Jockey: Flavien Prat, who won over $40 million in purses and 46 graded stakes.
Other finalists: Irad Oritz Jr. winner of 334 races and three Breeders' Cup events; the veteran John Velazquez with 10 Grade 1 victories.
Combined, these three riders won 778 wins and over $100 million in earnings in 2025.

Champion Apprentice Jockey: Pietro Moran, Irish-born and Canadian raised, won the most races of any apprentice.
Other finalists: Christopher Elliott, son of Stuart Elliott; Yedsit Hazlewood, a native of Panama

Bob Duncan, who's manned the starting gate for NYRA tracks for many years, was presented a Special Eclipse Award for Career Excellence after over 50 years in the game. Todd Pletcher presented.

Dan Piazza, National Handicapping Champion, received the Eclipse Award for 2025 Horseplayer of the Year.

The late, legendary journalist Ed Bowen was named as recipient of the Eclipse Award of Merit. Dell Hancock presents to his family.
Ed is considered to be the sport's greatest historian for the past 60 years. Among other achievements he was a script-writer for the Breeders' Cup Awards and Editor-in-Chief of BloodHorse.

Legendary race caller Trevor Denman was honored with a Special Eclipse Award for Career Excellence as his famous "scintillating" call of Zenyatta's Breeders' Cup win is played.

FanDuel NTRA Moment of the Year: Forever Young's Breeders' Cup win. Breeder Shunsuke Yoshida accepted.

The National Turf Writers and Broadcasters with matching financial support from The Jockey Club, today announced a substantial expansion of its internship funding program for equine media outlets in 2026. Both organizations have authorized contributions of up to $12,000 each, co-funding potentially eight paid internships designed to bolster staffing in horse racing media and foster the next generation of equine journalists.

The media awards are presented by the NTRA, Daily Racing Form, and the NTWAB in recognition of outstanding achievement in media coverage of Thoroughbred racing.
