Honoring Excellence in Horse Racing

Perry Ouzts will be honored with the Mr. Fitz Award for typifying the spirit of racing after breaking a North American record for all-time mounts when he rode his 53,579th race on July 26 at Belterra Park. Ouzts, 71, is the fifth-winningest rider in North American history with more than 7,500 career wins. We will also honor the popular and well-traveled broadcaster Nick Luck (Jim McKay Award for career excellence in broadcasting); longtime president/CEO of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Joe Harper (Joe Palmer Award for meritorious service to racing); and 31-year Daily Racing Form reporter Steve Andersen (Walter Haight Award for career excellence in Turf writing) at the National Turf Writers And Broadcasters’ 65th Annual Awards Dinner.

The NTWAB Annual Awards Dinner is the organization’s only fundraiser, and a portion of the proceeds of the event will fund Thoroughbred industry charities and internships for prospective racing journalists. This year, the NTWAB co-funded five internships with equine media outlets.

Individual tickets: $85 for NTWAB members and credentialed media. $115 for non-members.
Tables: $840 party of eight; $1,050 party of ten

Individuals, organizations or groups: Please include contact person, names and emails of attendees, and choices of beef, fish or vegan/vegetarian along with any dietary restrictions of your guests.

Please arrive a bit early and go to the check-in table where we will have a list of attendees.

Entree options: Macadamia-encrusted Mahi Mahi; Certified Sterling New York Steak; Cauliflower Steak (vegetarian/vegan option)

NOTE: If you have any dietary restriction such as food allergy, it is your sole legal responsibility to notify The Brigantine by informing wait staff. PLEASE NOTE: The Annual Awards Dinner is held at the Brigantine's uncovered outdoor stone deck setting overlooking Del Mar racetrack. Our costs for the event are fixed. In the unlikely event the NTWAB Awards Dinner is cancelled because of inclement weather, we thank you for your donation. We will make every effort to avoid a cancellation, but we are literally unable to reschedule the Annual Awards Dinner.
