NTWAB, The Jockey Club to Co-Fund Record Nine Media Internships in 2026

The National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB), with matching financial support from The Jockey Club, has agreed to support a record nine internship applications at horse racing media outlets in 2026, by far the largest group funded since the program began in 2023.

The NTWAB internship committee approved co-funding internships at The Saratoga Special, BloodHorse, Daily Racing Form, the New York Racing Association’s television production with FOX featuring Saratoga Live, Maryland Horse Breeders and its affiliated publications, NBC, Horse Racing Happy Hour, Paulick Report, and Agentes 305.

The NTWAB internship support initiative was launched to help offset budget pressures at print, digital, and broadcast outlets and to support both workforce development in racing journalism and the immediate staffing needs of media organizations covering the sport.

Together, the National Turf Writers Association Charitable Foundation and The Jockey Club have committed approximately $24,000 toward the 2026 internships, with each organization authorizing up to $12,000 in matching funds. The NTWAB and The Jockey Club will collectively reimburse up to half of an outlet’s internship payroll and related expenses, capped at $3,000.

“This program is doing exactly what it was intended to do — assisting media outlets with staffing while providing students interested in equine journalism with paid opportunities and a pathway to full-term employment upon graduation,” NTWAB president Byron King said. “We’re appreciative of The Jockey Club for their matching financial support and their commitment to foster the next generation of talent in equine journalism.”

“The Jockey Club fully supports advancements for aspiring journalists and media personnel in horse racing, and we are grateful to the NTWAB for working with us on this initiative,” said James L. Gagliano, president and COO, The Jockey Club.

The NTWAB will assist participating outlets in publicizing internship job application links as positions become available. Prospective interns and media organizations interested in participating in future years are encouraged to monitor ntwab.org and follow @NTWAB on X for additional details.
