Bredar Receives Engelhard Award

Caton Bredar has been named the recipient of the Charles W. Engelhard Award by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders.

First given in 1970, the Engelhard Award is presented annually to a member of the media for outstanding coverage of the Thoroughbred industry. Bredar, a member of NTWAB, was named the 2024 winner at the KTA-KTOB Champion Kentucky-Bred Awards banquet on April 11.

Engelhard was a renowned buyer and owner of championship Thoroughbreds. Among others, he campaigned Red Reality, Assagai, Tentam, Alley Fighter, and the U.S. Champion sire Halo.

"Such a wonderful surpise, after emcee-ing the awards ceremony for 8 years," Bredar said on X. "I got to take home a beautiful trophy of my own. So honored and grateful. Congratulations to al the winners! Very special evening."

The Engelhard Award originated in 1970. Recent NTWAB members to win the award include Steve Byk (2022), Alicia Hughes (2021), Donna Brothers (2020), Natalie Voss (2019), Mike Penna's Horse Racing Radio Network (2018), Jay Privman (2017), Sean and Joe Clancy (2016) and Greg Hall (2014).
