Tom Pedulla, President of the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters, today cautioned members to avoid conflicts of interest when casting votes for the Eclipse Awards.

"I am confident all of you approach your vote with the utmost integrity, but I would like to offer words of caution based on a few recent votes," Pedulla wrote in an email to the membership. "Due to financial constraints, many of us no longer find ourselves as strictly writers or broadcasters. If the blurring of these lines may cause a conflict of interest in a certain category, please recuse yourself from that category only."

Pedulla cited as an example an NTWAB member who might work on behalf of a racing partnership.

"You should not vote for a trainer that partnership uses because it compromises the integrity of the process," he wrote.

Pedulla pledged that NTWAB officers and board members will review balllots, and that anyone who votes despite a conflict of interest risks losing the privilege.
